Well, I've been in kind of a lull with my blog writing, but have been on the upstroke with my creative writing -- apparently I'm imcapable of doing both equally. So here is another blog of complete, long winded randomness.
I have to say Chuck is growing on me the more I watch it. I guess it's very relatable to me because I know those people -- I am those people (not the special agents, obviously...lol). But I am in that out of college, what the hell am I supposed to do now group. There's nothing all that deep about Chuck, but it's fun and has tons of pop culture references that anyone who grew up when I did would know -- all I need to hear is a Thundercats or a Jem reference and my deal as a Chuck fan is sealed.
I know this week all the hype was about Nicole Richie (not to mention the girl on girl fight to "Smack my Bitch Up"), but who cared about her when you have the surprise of Ben Savage from Boy Meets World. Any one who grew up in the late 80's and/or early-mid 90's, grew up watching one, if not both of the Savage brothers. I grew up with both, though I watched The Wonder Years more than Boy Meets World. Not to mention a film called Little Monsters with both of them and Howie Mandel as a kind hearted monster who lives under Fred Savage's bed.
Plus I liked that they made Sarah a band geek in her other life. It makes her a bit more relatable. And there's always Adam Baldwin -- we need more Adam Baldwin.
Then over the weekend I watched this little indie film called Hard Candy. It's a thriller that reminded me of a Hitchcock thriller, in that the suspense is dependent on what you don't see, which I love.
It's about a fourteen year old girl (played by a pre-Juno Ellen Page) who agrees to meet up with a 32 year old man, who she has met on the internet. Sounds predictible and one would think that we would see the teen try to escape the psycho pediophile and then learn a valuable lesson about meeting people on the internet -- but no. We quickly learn that the teen girl is not the one being manipulated here. There were some things that I thought needed more explanation or resolution, but over all it was well done and I would recomend it.
Now some life stuff --
Well we finally have caught up with our work load, but have not been moved into our new space like we were told we would be once we got caught up. It's sad but I just have no respect for my bosses right now. You can't respect someone who forgets or is late for a meeting that they scheduled, but gets all high and mightly if you are late. Of course the "Mom for McCain" bumber sticker and passive agressive comments aginast Obama are not helping with my fruastration.
But at least I do have a trained assistant now and things are coming together, but she is in desperate need of a real desk -- her current one is made of two skinny card tables shoved into a corner.
And the weather is getting cold, but staying sunny. It's quite pretty, even though (in typical VA form) we haven't gotten very much inbetween weather. It pretty much goes from warm/hot to cold...and then up and down a few more times. LOL. It's havoc on my sinuses, but I love fall colors.
Oh well back to work.

I am one of those who complained about the girl-on-girl "Smack my Bitch Up" scene, because it points out a great weakness on a show I otherwise love like puppies: its depiction of female characters. So I bitch about it and appreciate the everything else I love like puppies. Especially Casey, though I love him more like pie.
I too seem to blog less when I'm writing more. I think that's normal, though. Good to hear from you, in any case!
Yeah...I don't much care for their female characters -- I currently stick by the idea that Eames is probably the best female character on TV right now -- and I also find it interesting that when that song came out you never would have heard it on a prime time tv show. There was a lot of negative responses around that song, but now it's trendy (I blame Drew Barrymoore and Charlies Angels).
Oh well nothing can be perfect -- we just have to console ourselves with Adam Baldwin *sigh*
I don't know if you watch any of these, but:
Bones is chock full of amazingly diverse and positive female characters
Saving Grace, also
I point these out because too many female characters on TV these days fall into one of tow 2D feminist stereotypes: the One who Kicks Ass or the Smart One. but the women on these shows are much much more complex and display the variety of strong, smart, sometimes kick-ass women that are present in the world. I love Eames too, but I see her as filling a stereotype of her own within the cop genre.
But all is well as long as Adam Baldwin is on screen.
that would be "two 2D..."
I do watch "Saving Grace" and love holly hunter. I love the complexity of Grace and the reality of the things that made her -- which she isn't a great person, but it's honest. I don't know if I'd really consider her a good role model, but she's an interesting character.
I tried watching "Bones" but just never saw it consistantly and lost interest. If I could start from the beginning it might grow on me.
But I have to disagree about Eames. I find her rather unique from other female cops you see on TV that seem to be one emotional extreme or another. Where as I find Eames to be an honest portrayl because she has a way of being tough, but still giving off a subtle sense of vulnerability. With her I don't see "cop" or "woman" being her full definition, but that they both are, where as with others it seems they are only either or. Like, Benson -- she's just an overtly emotional, sterotypical woman. I don't find anything unique or interesting about her.
I don't know -- do you think we could get Adam Baldwin on CI? lol

I don't think our TVs could stand the hotness. The last time they shared a screen, Vincent had to shoot himself in the head!
As for Eames, I'm not saying her character doesn't totally rock. She does. I guess, I'm tired of the L&O-verse where no one can apparently have any life whatsoever outside of their jobs. That's why I liked Falacci, she had a husband and kids and going home to them was as important as her work. I see the fault in the Dick Wolf, et al character creation, not in her character specifically.
I see...I don't know I guess I kind of like her lack of a social life...lol.
and very true about Adam and Vince...something might implode.
And what are they in together?
The only show besides LOCI that I'm watching regularly is Life on Mars because I've always loved Harvey Keitel. But the show itself is actually fun to watch and I'm liking the main character. It's also fun to watch Michael Imperioli play a cop who looks more thug-like than he did when he was on The Sopranos. LOL
I kind of find Eames' total lack of a social life quite believable. Much more believable than the Falacci character for being in Major Case and having a career that takes up most of your life.
With Eames it's part of her backstory, too. With the knowledge that her friends drifted away after her husband died, it leaves me to believe she lives for work and her family. Not healthy but rather realistic.
Oh and congratulations on getting your assistant! :)
Oh I could get all teasy with the shippers here and say there's a difference between believablilty and wishful thinking! ;p
Vincent and Adam were in Full Metal Jacket together. Adam was Animal Mother to Vince's Private Pyle.
Oh...I guess he's in the later part of Full Metal Jacket -- I watched the first half and lost interest....i'm just not much of a Kuberick fan. Either that or i didn't recognize him...or forgot...
LOL...i guess belivebility and wishful thinking are realitive since you are dealing with two shippers...does it skew our desire for Eames to have a social life -- yes, but do I think emersing yourself in your work after a tradgedy and getting stuck in the day to day routine is believable also -- yes.
But I've tried not to be a shipper and I can't do it -- it's like crack, but hey it's better than devouring a whole pizza on my own. lol.
Oh and Music Wench, I was curious about Life on Mars -- it seems like an interesting concept. When is it on?
